How to prepare the car for spring?

A car needs to be prepared for all seasons, not just winter. So take good care of your car and it will pay off, or at least you won’t be surprised.

So how can you prepare your car for the spring/summer season so that you have a worry-free summer?
Here are our 7 tips:

1) retread your tyres
Early April is the time to retread your tyres, but also to check their condition/damage. The minimum depth is set by law at 1.6mm, but beware of uneven running.

2) check/refill operating fluids
Regular check to be carried out periodically. Checking the oil level is a must, followed by checking the coolant and brake fluid. It is also recommended to top up the washer fluid.

3) clean the air conditioning
What we breathe in the car is due to the air conditioning, which gets the worst of it during the winter due to the humidity. Every other year, we should have it cleaned by a professional, but we can do basic maintenance ourselves with commonly available special products.

4) Wiper control
In winter, the wiper blades suffer greatly, cracking and compromising grip. If the rest of the wiper is fine, you can replace just the blades, which you can get for a few pennies at auto supply stores.

5) brake check
Brake check is a spring must! The cold and snow has put a strain on the whole system, including the ABS. The pads can be worn down, the discs wavy and the ABS sensors clogged with dirt. We recommend checking the shocks and chassis as well.

6) clean the interior
Dry pieces of mud, pebbles, dust – everything must go. Vacuum the car thoroughly, wipe off the dust and clean the plastics.

7) give your car a bath
Don’t skimp on the car wash after winter! It’s time to give your car a good wash (including the chassis and wheels). Dry it off and treat it to special products – the remnants of winter dirt and salt just have to go.
